Visitor Management Systems are essential parts of any security plan

June 9th, 2010 | No Comments

Electronic Visitor Management Systems are becoming widely regarded as an essential part of physical security infrastructure in any building regardless of size. Visitor Management Systems are being adopted across the board in many industries including:

Health care facilities, schools and other educational buildings, corporations of all sizes, multi-tenant buildings, etc. All of the above industries have a common goal of monitoring visitor traffic through consistent registration and visitor policy enforcement procedures.

You can enhance your access control and perimeter security systems by providing a simple and effective way to register, badge, track and manage your facility’s visitor traffic.

Your lobby or front office is your first line of defense and your visitors first impression. With increased threats, the traditional method of using a log book and generic paper visitor tags leaves you vulnerable. Total ID Solutions can offer simple and effective ways to gain better control of your visitor traffic. With our highly sophisticated digital visitor management systems, visitors are identified, potential threats are flagged, expected visitors can be pre-registered, badges are issued, and visitors are tracked while on the premises.

Total ID Solutions offers multiple software packages to fit your particular needs. All systems offer unprecedented control and enforcement of visitor security policies. They are enterprise level systems that can leverage your existing security/network infrastructure to offer a flexible and open solution.

Digital Visitor Management Systems will:

• Determine who is in your facility at all times
• Identify unwanted visitors (silly offender or denied parties lists are fully integrated)
• Eliminate abuse of visitor badges (photos can be put onto the tag and self-expiring tags are available)
• Protect the confidentiality of visitors (no more searching through the visitor log book to see who has been in previously)
• Facilitate communication between hosts, visitors, and security personnel (fully integrated with email services)
• Improve lobby and security desk productivity (self-registration kiosks can free up valuable resources)

How does it work?

In a matter of a few seconds:

1. Scan a business card or drivers license to gather information about the visitor. For pre-registered and returning visitors, badges may already be waiting for the visitor upon arrival and simply need to be scanned for check in.
2. Take a photo of the visitor and log it into the visitor’s electronic record.
3. Discretely perform security checks to ensure the visitor is expected, not on a visitor watch list, and have the visit authorized in real-time.
4. Print an professional looking badge with the visitors name, photo, expiration time, valid access areas and any other required information. Visitor badges can be printed on thermal direct label printers, ink jet or laser color printers or dye-sub plastic card printers. Visitor badges can have features such as time-expiring stamps or tamper-resistant inks.

Paxton Access Control Systems

May 26th, 2010 | No Comments

Access control gives you full control of who has access to your building or facility. Locks and keys allow you to secure your building, however, when keys are lost or stolen, the inconvenience and expense of changing locks and re-issuing keys can be considerable. Keys may also be copied, creating even greater security risks.

All businesses, whether small, medium or large, have assets that need to be protected from theft. There is also the issue of protecting staff and their property. Most buildings that are secured by locks and keys have doors that are left unlocked all day. This opens up the possibility of opportunist theft and malicious damage.

Electronic access control provides the most efficient and convenient way of securing your building and assets. Installing an access control system means that you will never have to change a lock again. Tokens (keyfobs, prox cards, watchprox or ISO cards) are issued to allow access through the controlled doors, and are easily barred from the system if they are lost, stolen or just not returned by someone who leaves your company. Barred tokens will not allow access through the controlled doors.

Once an access control system is installed, all doors controlled by the system will automatically lock when the door is closed. Anyone without a PIN or access token is unable to enter. If necessary, doors may be set to unlock during a designated time frame.

Access control can also offer flexible control over users’ access rights. For example, all staff can gain access through the main door of a building, but access to internal areas may be restricted to those who have a specific need to be there. Access may also be restricted by time, only granting access to particular users at certain times of day or night.

Access control offers a secure, convenient, flexible and cost effective way of controlling who has access to your building and when that access is allowed. Access control gives organizations the security they need.

Total ID Solutions, Inc. sells and services Paxton Access Control Systems. Paxton Access specialize in access control solutions. Their development team is focused on designing systems that are fit for their purpose, containing the important features that are necessary for well-run organizations. Paxton’s commitment has resulted in their products winning a reputation for reliability and ease of use.

Implementing an access control system can feel like a big change in company practice. The access control should give the benefit of additional security without requiring time-consuming administration. Paxton Access systems are intuitive and straightforward to administer. The increased security is a benefit to all, rather than a benefit for some and a headache for those who have to administer it.

Securion Card Printer

May 25th, 2010 | No Comments

Total ID Solutions sells and services Evolis plastic card printers. In February, Evolis announced that they have extended their line of laminates for the Securion plastic card printer. Below is a copy of the press release from the Evolis web site.

SECURION: a printing and lamination system for high-security badges

Angers, France, February 10, 2010 – Evolis, the European leader in personalization solutions for plastic cards, announces an extended offering of laminates for Securion, a system designed to personalize and laminate cards that fully comply with foolproof security.

Printing and Lamination Solution for High-Security Badges

Securion is a one-stop solution to personalize and laminate security badges in a decentralized environment. Available for many years in many parts of the world, Securion seamlessly scales to meet ever-present and growing concerns regarding security and data forgery, while greatly extending the lifespan of any card or badge. Securion personalizes and steadfastly provides protection to a wide array of badges, for highly secured access control to fraud-proof ID applications: ID cards, driver’s licenses, health cards, as well as access control badges.

This compact printer comes with a new color printing module and a lamination station, enabling dual-sided personalization. The badge is first processed through graphical and electrical personalization. Next, a protective film, in the format of a varnish or a patch, is applied by a hot roller over the entire card surface. The process of printing and encoding a security badge is, therefore, carried out in just one single pass.

To make this printer even more user-friendly, Securion now offers a new tray for rapid loading of the lamination film.

An Extended Offering of Security Films

To support the ever-increasing demand in security cards, Evolis offers new films, from the standard varnish type to highly secured holograms. Evolis also provides a hologram-customization program to design unique, tailor-made and fraud-proof laminating material. This enables 4 levels of security, from simple holograms to be indentified at a glance, to holograms that can only be read by highly sophisticated machines.

A Top Quality, yet Affordable Technology

Securion enables single-sided lamination of standard PVC cards. The lamination quality benefits from lab-tested and proven hologram films, with perfect adhesive strength on the card surface, and which helps fight, even further, any attempt at fraud. This solution also provides an attractive cost-per-card and greatly extends the lifespan of personalized cards.

About Evolis (www.evolis.com)

EVOLIS designs, manufactures and markets a complete range of solutions for personalization of plastic cards. Their printers seamlessly integrate all the options necessary for incorporating graphic, magnetic and electronic personalization (smart cards, with contact and contactless RFID technology) of all types of cards (employee badges, student ID cards, bank cards, etc.).
